Veils and Headpieces for Your Beach Wedding | Blue Poppy Outer Banks Photographers

What could be more romantic than a sweeping veil in the ocean breeze as the bride and groom stand to take their vows? Not many things we can think of! Here on the Outer Banks we are known to have quite a bit of wind on our beaches at times, so here we share our tips for your veil and some gorgeous alternatives for your beach wedding.

FULL VEIL

If you’ve always dreamed of a beautiful full veil (from shoulder to cathedral length) on your wedding day – do it! Just because you’re at the beach doesn’t mean you have to give in to practicality. Have your hairdresser show your Maid of Honor or a family member exactly how the veil is attached so if the wind is particularly blustery you can quickly remove it if necessary for part of the ceremony or pictures.

BIRD CAGE VEIL

A vintage choice (they originate from a fabric shortage during WWII) that has made a big comeback in recent years, the bird cage veil adds a touch of sophistication without all of the extra material that may get caught in the wind. Covering just part of your face, today’s bird cage veils can be modern and edgy and are a good choice for a beach wedding.

HEADPIECES

Beautiful bridal headpieces like jeweled combs, halo headbands, adorned barrettes and ornamental hair pins are another lovely choice for your Outer Banks beach wedding. Intricate or bold statement pieces can add sophistication to a sleek hairstyle while minimalist pieces like single pearl studded hair pins can add just the right amount of decoration to intricate styles.

FLOWERS

Real flower crowns or floral clips are another beautiful option to add a bit of whimsy to your wedding. Try ETSY for realistic looking options that will last multiple days or talk to your florist about what gorgeous creations they can come up with incorporating the same blooms as your arrangements.

VEIL WEIGHTS

One last tip – If your veil is lightweight and you are concerned about it flying awry in photos, consider veil weights! These small barely noticeable jeweled magnets add just enough weight to help your veil behave outdoors.

Whatever you decide – we can’t wait to capture all of its beauty on your big day 💗
