You’ve chosen the menu, the first dance details are all lined up and you’ve picked out the VIPs for speeches. Now that the main details are taken care of, it’s time to personalize your coastal Outer Banks wedding! Adding something fun and unexpected will leave guests smiling when they remember your day. Here are a few of the best customized details we’ve seen at weddings here on the Outer Banks:
BASKET OF FLIP FLOPS
Invite guests to kick off their shoes and wear a pair of flip flops! Pick up assorted sizes in one of your wedding colors at a drug store, big box store or even order in bulk online. Have it set out on the way to a beach ceremony to keep their real shoes from getting sandy or next to the dance floor so they can comfortably party all night!
Next Level: Place a hand-lettered sign next to the shoes “A Little Treat for your Dancing Feet” or “When your Feet Get Sore, Grab a Pair and Dance Some More”
On the subject of shoes, we loved this idea of leaving a pail of “shoe brushes” (paint brushes) on the boardwalk helping guests get the sand off of their shoes and feet before heading back to the reception. Pick up some inexpensive paint brushes at the hardware store and place them in a beachy metal or wooden bucket.
Next Level: tie ribbons around the brushes in wedding color and add a hand-lettered or chalk board sign: “For Sandy Toes”
Nothing breaks the ice between friends and family who may not yet have met like a good game of giant jenga – or corn hole! Wedding games aren’t just for kids.
Next Level: Corn Hole boards customized with your new last name or monogrammed initial and wedding date – perfect to bring home to your yard to remember this day.
LATE NIGHT BITES
The great thing about an Outer Banks wedding is the party can last all night, especially if your reception is in a vacation home. Surprise late night guests with a special catered snack that’s brought out long after the cake has been passed around and the calories danced away. Consider a s’mores bar, cookies and milk, waffles and maple syrup, corn dogs, soft pretzels, french fries, ice cream sandwiches – you get the picture!
Next Level: Have a snack bar of 2-3 different snacks and customize pretzel wrappers, French fry boxes, or add little tags with your wedding branding!
SPECIAL ICE CUBES
You probably know the custom cocktail is a ‘thing’ but have you thought of having custom ice cubes? Try mint ice cubes in a garden party cocktail (an un-crushed version of a mint julep), or edible flower ice cubes in a lemonade cocktail!
Bonus: They photograph beautifully – your guests are going to want to instagram these all night!
VINTAGE RUG AISLE RUNNER
Depending on the space you have set up for your ceremony, consider renting a beautiful vintage rug for your walk down the aisle. These are perfect for a soundside or indoor ceremony and add a beautiful pop of color for a Boho Wedding. Try Amaranth + Artifact for rug rentals.
