Bridesmaid Dresses for Your Beach Wedding | Blue Poppy Wedding Photographers

Hooray, it’s Friday + the start of a beautiful long weekend, with what looks like lots of perfect beach weather here on the Outer Banks. We loved meeting so many new couples getting married in 2020 at last weekend’s Wedding Fest and today, to help you plan, we’ve gathered some thoughts on beach bridesmaid dresses…

You’ve chosen the special ladies in your life to stand beside you on your big day and you’ve found your fairytale wedding dress – now it’s time to choose bridesmaid dresses for your Outer Banks wedding. Here are a few things to think about when making this big decision:

We love the current trend of varying shades of the same color in differing style dresses. Not every color is flattering on every skin tone and since we all have different bodies, the same style of dress is not complimentary on every body shape and size. Be sure to keep the lengths and level of dressiness (cocktail vs. formal) very near the same to allow for a cohesive look.

For dress colors, you’ll also want to consider the time of year and the wedding palette. Jewel tones are beautiful for a fall wedding and pastels really pop in the Spring.

It can be hard to achieve the look you want and expect all of your best friends to take on the expense of a designer dress on top of other costs they will be budgeting to be a part of your wedding. This is where the relatively new invention of dress rental can be a great idea! Just have the dresses shipped in the correct size (most places allow a few sizes to try on) days before the wedding. Some companies, like Rent the Runway, even offer a personal concierge for Bridal Parties that includes perks like try-on parties and access to a curated bridesmaid collection that includes top designers.

So you already have an idea of the bridesmaids dresses in mind and have chosen the color scheme for your wedding, you still need to choose your wedding dress first! Will it be formal floor length or something chic and casual? Bridesmaids dresses in a similar length and relative style allow for coordinated photographs.

Even at the beach. Just because you have the most gorgeous backdrop of the Atlantic ocean and a floor of sand beneath your feet doesn’t mean your attire needs to be casual (but it can be), bridesmaids dresses can be as formal or informal as your vision takes them.

We’ve attended so many incredible beach weddings over the years and are always glad to chat about your ideas to talk about what works best, if you have a question, contact us!
